The Hide & Wildlife Encounters
Umgede Hide sits at water level with direct views of a private waterhole, offering guests the chance to photograph elephants drinking 2 to 3 meters away. The hide includes bean bags, gimbals, WiFi, and charging points for photographers, plus a day bed for resting between sessions. Night photography is possible because the waterhole is floodlit, and the hide has tea and coffee facilities with a fridge.
Accommodation & Camp Facilities
The camp has 4 en-suite bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, and a fully equipped kitchen with an oven. An outdoor deck overlooks the braai area and a pool with pool views, and the property includes an outdoor fireplace and a sun terrace. Daily housekeeping, laundry service, and ironing are provided, and the camp is used exclusively by one booking group at a time.
Game Drives & Guided Activities
The owner Ian, a former field guide trainer, leads private daily game drives in the Grietjie Game Reserve, which is known for elephant herds and big male lions along the Olifants River. Walking tours and game drives are included in the stay, and guests can also use board games and puzzles in the shared lounge. The hide and camp are set within a 3-hour drive from Hoedspruit for self-catering supplies.
